La Familia is a non-governmental organization registered in Kenya working towards helping the boy child nurture their strength, compassion, and diversity in a bid to empower the boychild.
We provide safe spaces for open dialogue for boys between 15 and 30 years of age moderated by trained professionals. This will help them articulate and understand their emotions, breaking free from harmful stereotypes. Boys need counselling and guidance through their passage to manhood as an Empowered boy child in Kenya. Encouraging diverse interests, hobbies, and professions allows boys to embrace their talents and passions. Dismantling stereotypes fosters self-assurance and facilitates their development into multifaceted individuals.
Like a success story we have all observed an extraordinary shift in the way people think about the girl child and witnessed the impeccable influence that various remarkable solutions have impacted to give her the unprecedented independence that had for so long been neglected.
Sadly, the boy child has been left to choose his future and chart his own course without much guidance from the environment. He has been placed at the peripheries of the girl-child’s profound advancement leaving them excluded in addressing central issues lurking in the society.
The impact of the neglect cannot go unnoticed. In his bid to find his footing, the boy-child is now associated with vices such as drug and substance abuse, sexual abuse and dropping out of school.
Cases we deal with regularly include:
- Exam candidates who perform dismally and want to commit suicide
- Boys impregnating girls and are scared of early fatherhood
- Alcoholism and drug abuse
- Sex and Masturbation
- Feeling of being stagnated in life especially around age 30
- Not being understood or being treated like a child by parents
- Depression
Stigma prevents boys from seeking help. To empower boys, we must prioritize mental health, offer accessible services, promote emotional well-being, and encourage help-seeking behavior. This fosters growth and resilience.
La Familia has its operations in Nairobi. We encourage parents to bring their children or boys between ages 15-30 years can walk in during our working hours for assessment before a certified counsellor is allocated to you to walk the journey of empowering the boychild with you.
No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.
La Familia currently has over 200 registered members as of early 2022. Our sole purpose is to guide and counsel boys into men and support their growth in various ways.
